Masaaki Iwasa Solo Exhibition “Scenes of Serene Stillness”
We are pleased to present a solo exhibition by ceramic artist Masaaki Iwasa, based in Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture. Born in Ehime, Iwasa trained in Bizen and Shigaraki before establishing his own kiln in Izumo, where he continues his creative practice while also serving as the head priest of a temple.
His works in totai-shikki (ceramic lacquerware), a technique in which lacquer is applied to ceramic bodies, layered with silver foil, and then fired, possess a distinctive metal-like texture. The serene yet taut expressions of the silver surfaces evoke the modest and sometimes austere natural landscapes of the San’in region.
This exhibition features a diverse selection of works, including silver flower vases as well as tea and sake ware. We warmly invite you to experience Iwasa’s first solo exhibition at our gallery.
